You should still call 999 or go to A&E if you have an immediate, life-threatening emergency requiring mental or physical health assistance.

Every Mind Matters -Better Health

Every Mind Matters have launched a new campaign, Better Health. Better Health provides awareness and advice to parents and carers of young people affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. It also provides support for young people directly affected by the virus.

Many young people and children have found staying at home, away from friends and school, particularly difficult. They may be finding returning to school challenging, or may have been facing family problems/ losses in the recent months, which is a lot to come to terms with. Children may be worrying about the virus, about catching and passing it on, or worrying about the uncertainty of the future. Every Mind Matters aims to help those who may be struggling and provide advice to those caring for children and young people who’s mental health has been affected by COVID-19. Looking after a child or young person’s mental health – Online support for young people

Kooth offers free emotional support including; immediate access to online counselling, self-help resources and peer to peer support. The platform also encourages assigning self-defined goals which can be measured to better understand progress/outcomes.

No referral is required and people can sign up anonymously. To access Kooth visit

The services are accessible via desktop, smartphone and/or tablet.

Kooth offers young people (aged 11-25) in Wirral the opportunity to have a text-based conversation with a qualified counsellor. Counsellors are available from 12noon to 10pm on weekdays and 6pm to 10pm at weekends, every day of the year on a drop-in basis. Young people can access regular booked online counselling sessions as needed. Outside counselling hours, young people can message our team and get support by the next day. The platform is available 365 days a year.

When young people register with Kooth they will have support available to them now and in the future. Support can be gained not only through counselling but articles, forums and discussion boards.  All content is age appropriate, clinically approved and fully moderated.

Preventing Self-harm in Teens: A Guide for Appropriate Intervention

Teens have the highest rate of self-harm among any age demographic, with approximately 17% of teens reporting at least one instance of self-harm in their lifetime. The average age of the first incident of self-harm is 13. Often teens will seek out support from loved ones rather than mental health professionals. However, many teens will take extraordinary steps to conceal their self-harm, or even deny engaging in such behaviour.

Additionally, they may not even be aware of what professional resources are available to them. As such, it is important for anyone with a teen in their life to be aware of warning signs and understand how to appropriately address instances of self-harm
