What’s going on in research
At Eastham Group Practice we are proud to be involved in medical research that helps improve healthcare for our patients and the wider community. Research carried out in GP practices plays an important role in developing new treatments, improving existing care, and helping doctors and researchers better understand different health conditions.
By taking pa
rt in research studies, our practice contributes to the future of medicine while continuing to provide high-quality care to our patients. Our aim is to continue supporting the research we are currently involved in while expanding our participation in future studies that can benefit our community.
Many research studies rely on the experiences and participation of patients in everyday healthcare settings like GP practices. By supporting research, we are helping ensure that future treatments, services, and healthcare approaches are shaped by real patient needs and experiences.
Research Studies Currently Running at Our Practice
We are currently taking part in multiple research studies. These studies explore different aspects of healthcare and aim to improve patient care in a variety of ways. A few studies are listed below.
Safe-D – A new blood test is being used to detect the presence of pancreatic cancer in patients recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, or with elevated blood sugar levels.
Asymptomatic – The aim of this trial is to find out the best way to use inhaled corticosteroids (preventer inhaler) in children with asthma. Preventer inhalers prevent asthma attacks when used every day, however it is unknown whether children with mild asthma need to use them every day.
ThinkCancer! – We are taking part in a 5-year study aimed at improving the speed and efficacy of cancer diagnoses, aiming to improve and enhance cancer treatment and patient care.
Vesper – We are looking for patients who have experienced recurring UTI’s, to help discover the best methods for UTI prevention.
Improve DKD – This study aims to evaluate a digital intervention to improve care for patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease, with the objective of making a real difference to the lives of adults living with both conditions.
If you are eligible for one of these studies, a member of our team may contact you or mention the study during an appointment. Participation is always completely voluntary, and choosing not to take part will not affect your care in any way.
Upcoming Research Studies
Our practice is also preparing to take part in several new studies that will be opening for recruitment soon. These studies will help us continue contributing to important medical research and improving patient care.
Betri – An upcoming study sponsored by Chiesi, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, comparing the effectiveness and safety of a medium dosed Trimbow inhaler, to a High dosed Fostair inhaler, for patients with asthma.
Solaria – This study aims to reduce the number of asthma exacerbations (flare-ups) in adults and adolescents with severe uncontrolled asthma, by testing the efficacy of a biannual injection. The drug aims to improve treatment outcomes for patients who do not respond adequately to current therapies.
More information about these studies will be shared once recruitment opens.
